Sensory Play, Summer

Butterflies and Flowers Sensory Table

It doesn’t get much better than a rice bin for toddlers and preschoolers. The sensory experience of colored rice provides a perfect backdrop to play and explore within a seasonal context.

This is the IKEA FLISAT table with Sarah’s silks nestled underneath the bins for a splash of color

This themed rice table will be fun for your 2-6 year olds. My 11 month old baby played with this set up, also, but she needed to be watched closely. Although all the ingredients are taste safe, I’d rather she doesn’t ingest loads of dried rice and polenta.

Rainbow rice, polenta, pink cous cous, dried beans
Polenta, pink cous cous and rice, bug and flower figurines
Brown rice, green rice, bug and flower figurines

Materials

  • Scoops and bowls
  • plastic bug figurines
  • fake flowers
  • Colored rice, beans, etc

You don’t need this IKEA FLISAT table to set up a sensory bin. Use any old big, shallow container or tray you have on hand. I used to use a roasting pan when my oldest child was a toddler.

I hope you have time to try this out at home. You’ll love watching your little artist learn and grow as they pretend, scoop and sort all the different textures and colors. Enjoy!
