Don’t let rain clouds get in the way of having messy, artsy fun outside! This process based art play will keep your little artist so engaged outdoors they won’t want to come back in.

Materials
- Coffee filters
- Markers
- Food or soap dye
- Vinegar
- Cornstarch
- Puddles

Step One: Decorate Coffee Filters
Cover coffee filters with washable marker art.

Step Two: Go Outside and Play with Water
Go outside in the rain and get the coffee filters wet. Splash them! Dunk them! Use a pipette to drop water on them! Experiment! When done, lay flat to dry.

Step Three: Make Dye Puddles
Next, turn some puddles into dye by adding vinegar and food or soap dye. Add blank coffee filters and let them marinate—the longer, the more pigment. When they are done, take them out and lay flat to dry.

Step Four: Color Splashing!
Add corn starch to your dye puddles to turn them into chalk paint and have fun splashing in the colorful puddles!

We originally planned to just do step one, but this is what our process evolved into. Let your own process evolve to fit you and your little artists inclinations.
Enjoy the rain!
